The Kurmangazy Kazakh National conservatoireThe Kurmangazy Kazakh National conservatoire is the first higher music institution in Kazakhstan.  On July 24, 1944 the Council of People’s Commissars of Kazakh SSR ordered to organize the State institute of Arts in Almaty. Later it was changed to Almaty conservatoire following the example of Moscow and Leningrad conservatoires. In 1945 the conservatoire was named after the great Kazakh composer-kuyshi of the 19th century Kurmangazy Sagyrbaev.

For a long period of its history, the conservatoire has managed to create its own national model of higher music education. Organic synthesis of European classical and Kazakh national systems of education makes this model unique.

Today the graduates of the conservatoire work almost in all music collectives of the country and are the participants of many foreign professional collectives – Russia, Germany, Greece, Holland, Israel, USA, France, Canada, Korea, China, etc.

According to the general rating of Kazakhstani universities, the conservatoire is the first arts higher education institution in the country.

With accordance to Bologna agreement the conservatoire adopts a new international credit system of education.  New highly demanded on domestic and foreign markets specializations of Bachelor and Master programs are implemented.  For instance, in 2007 new specialization “Art Management” was opened. In a soon future, on the basis of the conservatoire’s own TV and radio complex, new specializations will be offered. Such as sound director and producer, sound engineer for record studios, music critic for radio, radio programs author and anchor-musicologist.The Kurmangazy Kazakh National conservatoire

The conservatoire has 2 study buildings, which are situated in the center of the city.

The dormitory is facilitated with accordance to all modern standards and provides with accommodation 100% of students.

The conservatoire persistently renovates its park of music instruments: pianos of German and Japan producers (Steinway, Grotrian-Steinweg, Seiler, Yamaha, Bluthner, August Forster), brass, wind and percussion instruments.

For these instruments a studio for repairing keyboard, string and brass instruments was organized.

Concert halls of the conservatoire are equipped with the modern concert devices and have good acoustics.

Chamber Hall - 170 places.

The languages of study – Kazakh and Russian.

The Library of the conservatoire has the biggest fund of specialized musical literature in Kazakhstan. Its fund owns 579038 copies of various issues. Rare collection of musical arts and culture literature has a practical, scientific and historical value. This collection consists of old copies of books and sheet music, which were issued in a small amount (old claviers, handwritten pieces of Kazakhstani composers, etc), scientific and methodological developments of the conservatoire’s teachers, students’ diploma works, which are being saved during all the years of  the conservatoire’s history.

There are more than 2000 CDs and Mini discs in the media library. Also various audio and video cassettes, gramophone records are stored there. More than 3000 magnetic coils include The Kurmangazy Kazakh National conservatoireold records of world best soloists and collectives, and also rare first records of Kazakh traditional music.

TV and Radio complex “Classics”  is a new purchase of the conservatoire, which allows to transmit rare performed Kazakh classical music and popular world classical pieces both inside the conservatoire and all around the country via a satellite channel.  The complex also allows to record the concerts, produce musical programs for television, to digitize the rare recordings from magnetic coils. This complex will be the educational laboratory of the conservatoire.

Since 2007 the conservatoire’s own print center started its work. This center provides the conservatoire with polygraph production.

The conservatoire’s experimental arts school with an untraditional educational plan offers a complex study of music, choreography, drawing and theatre.  The age of students is unlimited. The lessons are given by both conservatoire’s teachers and invited instructors.

Rector of the Kurmangazy Kazakh National Conservatory is a prize-winner of many international contests, professor, National Artist of the Republic of Kazakhstan Jania Aubakirova.
